At EDC, we build upon the principals and traditions of our military and the experience of our leadership in the military service. Personal responsibility and accountability are required character traits, and working independently is a must. The letters “EDC” in “EDC Consulting” are derived from the term “Esprit de Corps”. Esprit de Corps (pronounced “es-pree deh core”) is a translation from the French “group spirit.” It’s a synonym for words like morale, comradeship, and purpose. In its strictest sense, it applies to military groups, who together form a sense of purpose and comradeship. Yet it is often also used in common language to refer to any group that is united for a common cause and protective of its members. We are proud of the team that we have assembled here at EDC. Peter Markakos is the President and Founder of EDC Consulting. Pete has extensive experience working for large companies, systems integrators and “Big 4” consulting firms and has served in executive positions for such companies as SAP, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM. Pete has built from ground-up and successfully led Sales, Business Development and Proposal organizations. Throughout his career, he has been successful at formulating and executing strategic plans and growing market presence while maximizing revenues in large and small business/start-up environments. Pete is a retired 24-year U. S. Marine Corps Reserve officer with 9 years of active duty. He has a Master of Science degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He is an active member in numerous industry groups and professional organizations.
Uli Werner is the Chief Executive Officer and co-Founder of EDC Consulting. Uli spent 16 years at SAP where he held a variety of senior executive and executive management positions within SAP America and its subsidiaries. Uli has a strong technical and functional SAP background and served as the executive sponsor and stakeholder for bringing SAP’s Public Sector Industry Solution to the Federal Marketplace. Uli led SAP’s Public Services team and was responsible for Software and Solution Sales, Strategic Alliances and Product Management. Uli was also the founder and executive sponsor of SAP’s first Public Affairs and Government Relations practice and Political Action Committee (PAC). He has a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Computer Science degrees and is an active member in numerous industry groups and professional organizations.
Dori Markakos is the Financial Controller for EDC Consulting. Dori has more than 12+ years of experience in financial and accounting operations, financial administration, and a wide range of compliance and policy matters. Dori previously worked in the property management and construction industry where she served as a Director of Operations and managed over 400 individual properties and a real estate portfolio valued in excess of $40M. Dori is a graduate of the University of Virginia’s School of Commerce and received her Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a specialization in Business and Marketing. She was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honors society.
Ray Boehling serves as the Director of Business Operations for EDC Consulting. He has over 35 years of combined business operations, program management, and engineering/technology experience, and a wealth of knowledge in large and small business, commercial, defense and government organizations. He has participated in corporate organizations at the executive level and supported clients to include OSD, the US Army, and the US Air Force. Ray has a Bachelors and Masters in Engineering, Master of Business Administration in Finance and Management, is registered as a Professional Engineer and is an active Member of AFCEA.
Kevin Pledger serves as the Director of Contract Management and in-house counsel for EDC Consulting. He provides organizational contracting solutions, corporate wide policy and direction, guidance and oversight of Contract matters, and ensures that EDC meets acceptable performance standards in the Contracts arena. He serves as a principal interface with key government clients regarding all Contracts, government regulatory policy and oversight. Prior to joining EDC, Kevin served in a number of positions within the aerospace, defense and legal industries. Kevin received his Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University and his JD from Lewis & Clark Northwestern School of Law.
Michael Gaffney is a Senior Business Development Manager for EDC Consulting. Michael is responsible for identifying and developing business opportunities for EDC in Department of Defense, Homeland Defense and Intelligence business areas. Michael is an experienced Sales and Business Development professional with a background of having served on active duty in the U.S. Army for over ten years. Michael deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq during his career and served in a wide range of leadership and operational positions. Michael’s work history includes supporting multiple Fortune 500 organizations. He is a skilled leader and long-range planner that strategically targets and engages the right opportunities and partnerships for controlled growth.
Mark Browning is EDC’s Senior Proposal and Capture Manager. His career spans more than 30 years and includes proposal management, project management, personnel management, and technical and business writing. He has developed proposals to Federal, state and local governments, and managed major proposal efforts for the world’s largest provider of lottery technology and services. His business background is international in scope, having managed on-site business requirements analyses and technical documentation projects throughout North America, Europe and Asia in support of software development and system implementations. Mark served as a regional planning agency liaison to a state legislature, congressional delegation and governor’s office, and represented organizations before policy-makers and government agencies. Mark holds a B.Sc. and a Project Management Certificate, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Certificate in Procurement and Contracts Management at the University of Virginia.
Joel Scharlat serves as EDC’s Senior Proposal and Capture Manager. Joel has over 10 years experience with strategy development and government contracting and has successfully led multi-million dollar proposal and capture efforts for small and medium sized companies as both a prime and subcontractor. He is a detail-oriented strategic thinker with the ability to translate high-level vision in to actionable steps. Joel is a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Officer with more than 17 years of active duty and reserve time. He has a Master of Science in Systems Technology (JC4I) from The Naval Postgraduate School and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (MIS) from the University of Arizona.
Tom Nichols serves as a Business Analyst for EDC Consulting. He is a former Marine officer with six years of active duty experience. After leaving the service in 2012, Tom worked for the Department of Justice supporting the INTERPOL National Central Bureau. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois in landscape architecture and has numerous personal training certificates.
Arnie Gerstein serves as EDC’s Resource Operations Manager. Arnie has extensive experience recruiting Department of Defense, Intelligence Community as well as Civilian Agency projects, supporting engineering, technical, functional as well as back office positions. Arnie’s reputation includes working with candidates targeting their goals for positive long term experiences and working with firms that understand the value of human capital. His accomplishments includes hiring, training, mentoring and leading teams of talent acquisition, sales, customer service teams and departments. He’s is an active member in numerous industry and professional groups. Arnie is a Washington, D.C. native and participates in various civic organizations to give back to the community.
Emmanuel Mavromatakis serves as the IT Systems Manager for EDC Consulting. With over five years of experience in the consulting business, Emmanuel is a well-versed, and technically savvy IT Manager dedicated to accomplishing milestones and achieving project success. His daily work ethic extends towards exceptional communication among his peers, as well as impeccable attention to that of project action items and life-cycle goals. He graduated from George Mason University’s Volgenau School of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology with a concentration in Information Security, and a minor in Business Management.
Jennifer Harris is EDC Consulting’s Personnel Manager. Jennifer has more than eight years of experience working in the Human Resources field and has spent half that time with EDC Consulting. Jennifer has experience in benefits, payroll, and compliance. Before joining EDC, she worked for a Healthcare Staffing agency for four years as a Contract Coordinator. Jennifer received an Associate’s Degree in Human Resources from Northern Virginia Community College. She is pursuing her certification in Professional Human Resources and Employee Benefits.
